Getting Blackheads Despite Your Skincare Routine?

It may be that you are following the correct steps, but simply using the wrong products. It is critical that you are careful about what you put on your skin as even products that are genuinely good for the skin may not help with blackhead treatment. The video below has some great tips on keeping your skin clear and blemish-free.

The first thing to be aware of if you want to prevent a new crop of blackheads, is that they are formed from excess oil and dead skin cells that clog up the pores on the face. This means that using oily facial skincare products is out! Anything that adds oil to the skin will only make the problem worse.

Many moisturizers also clog up the pores, so if you have dry skin and cannot do without moisturizing as part of your daily routine; make sure you select a moisturizer that is light and oil-free. Look for the words non-comedogenic on the labeling – this means that the product will not clog pores potentially causing blackheads.

There is a great selection in my picks from Amazon (below) and be sure to read the reviews of the products we feature at the top of the page too!

Check that your cosmetics are free from oil too, and keep your face makeup free as often as possible to give your pores plenty of opportunity to breathe.

how to prevent blackheadsThe first stage of your morning skincare routine should be to wash your face with a medicated cleaner and warm water, to reduce oil levels and get rid of any bacteria that could lead to infection.

Next, exfoliate the skin with one of our recommended products. This will remove hardened oil from the pores and gently cleanse the skin cells. Apply the mixture in a circular movement and rinse it off after it becomes dry. The pores will tighten and reduce the chance of blackheads forming.

Make sure you go to bed every night with clean skin; no matter how tired you are, take the time to remove your make up! Leaving it on overnight will cause it to block your pores even more and undo all the good work you do in the morning.

The next step in the prevention of blackheads is to protect the skin from environmental elements that can have a detrimental effect. A cream with germicidal properties, such as sandalwood, is a suitable barrier, which will not increase the oiliness of the skin.

Applying a mask to the skin may also help keep blackheads under control. This will deep cleanse the skin, ensuring that the pores are kept clean and grease-free. For a completely natural mask, mix together herbal powder, seaweed lotion, yogurt, egg white and honey in a large bowl. Apply the mixture to the whole face and leave it to dry before taking it off with a soft, damp cloth and plenty of warm water. The texture and appearance of the skin should be improved and the pores should be smaller.

Tips On Keeping Your Skin Clear of Blemishes

[ad#Ad Block Posts Float Right]Knowing how to prevent blackheads is mainly down to the products you apply to your skin, but diet and exercise are also important factors.

A healthy, balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables and no processed or sugary foods will see a huge improvement in the texture and appearance of your skin.

Drink plenty of water and take regular exercise to keep the skin hydrated and improve circulation. The condition of the body as a whole is often reflected in the skin; the healthier your lifestyle is, the better your skin will look.

If you are concerned about the appearance of your skin and want to know how to prevent blackheads with prescribed medication, consult your doctor or dermatologist for professional advice.

  1. This is really helpful. I have found many good tips on this site – especially on the “How to prevent blackheads” page. The completely natural mask sounds like a great idea – I am definitely going to try that!

    • Debbie, I am glad to hear that you found the page on how to prevent blackheads helpful, I hope you find the facial mask beneficial, thanks for taking the trouble to leave your comment here.

  2. A lot of great tips here. I’m definitely going to ask my daughters to have a look at this information. The Adovia acne soap sounds great. Is the mud soap version that’s available in the UK – where we live – just as effective?

  3. I just went to Turkey, and i have removed my blackheads on my nose at a Hamam. But I have to say that was painfull!!
These tips are excellent and are less painfull. Thank you for the tips!

  4. Hi there,
you recommend a medicated cleanser for the morning, and also an exfoliant with a mixture of beauty grains and skin tonic. Can you recommend specific brands for both the cleanser and the exfoliant? cost is a factor, here, so the cheaper the better.

    Thank you so much!

    • Hi Amy, thanks for your question. If cost is an issue, why not try the Cetaphil gentle cleansing bar or their liquid cleanser? For beauty grains, I personally would recommend Bobbi Brown buffing grains which are a little more expensive but they last ages and the good news is, they are just as effective if you mix them with plain water!

  5. As a male model/actor I find acne extremely annoying. Sometimes you even have to cancel shoots just because your face decided to grow a nasty red bump. I’ve been gradually gathering information on the internet to prevent acne from forming. I found this article after a quick search. Hopefully what I read here will help as well. Thank you for your insight on the matter.

  6. I have had trouble with getting blackheads, whiteheads and pimples on my back for many, many years. I have quite a few blackheads and whiteheads on my back right now, because it is so hard to remove them when it is hard to see them and reach them. Going to a dermatologist is very expensive, so I really cannot afford that. Every article seems to do with taking care of the face, but nothing on cleaning up the back. Any recommendations on what I can do? I am so sick and tired of the physical pain, as well as the lack of confidence I feel if I ever have to take my shirt off in public, which is never. Too embarrassing and emotionally painful as well. Thank you in advance.
